Malawi have formed their inter-agency task force hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining – Environmental Affairs Department. This host ministry is leading mobilization of participation of other critical ministries as needed. Membership of the task force covers government (Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy & Mining; Department of Fisheries; Ministry of Economic Planning & Development; Disaster Management Affairs; Climate Change & Meteorological Services) and private sector. Schedule of meetings is on an “as is needed” basis. - Task force has identified key existing policies for amendment towards complementing establishment of EBA based agro-industrial zones powered by clean energy. Among targeted policies include: decentralization Policy, National Environmental Policy, National Climate Change Management Policy, Decentralized Environmental Management Guidelines, etc. These have been reviewed to incorporate an integrated approach in environmental management – where climate action is considered in context of accelerating rural development.
